Reading Maya Angelou
In college was when I first read I know why the Caged bird Sings. I loved the Maya’s story. It seemed to me that she shared her story honesty and with out biased. Reading I know why the Caged bird Sings made me appreciate being a post civil rights era child.
I know why the Caged Bird Sings educated about conditions in the rural south during Jim Crow. Her honesty about her adolescence made me feel normal. Her story inspired me I figured if she could turn out to be somebody them surely I could too.
I enjoyed Heart of a Woman and All God’s Children need traveling shoes. She captures the 60’s with it’s highs and lows. I was excited as I read about her meeting Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She seemed to be in all the right places to meet all the right people Billie Holiday, Malcom X
Hello world!
Thank you for visiting The Big Block Goes on Top books blog. This blog is going to be dedicated to books. Books are an important part of my life. Since I was a child I have loved books. Paul( my grandfather) would read encyclopedia Britannica to me and the books of the bible. Then for while I lost interest in books until college. My love for books reemerged when my television was the victim of lighting.
In college , multicultural literature helped me realize that people from others different cultures are more similar than different. It made me realize that humans regardless of race, class or gender have the same concerns and fears. It was multicultural Literature class that ignited my interest in folk tales and professor Feinstein introduced me to Zora Neele Hurston.
During college I discovered great authors like fellow St. Louisan Maya Angelou. I also embraced feminist literature bell hooks, and Paula Giddings. Over the years the types of books I read have expanded, self help, fiction, biographies, text books, and children’s books.
Title for this blog comes from my autobiography that God willing will be release this fall. I hope this blog will be a corner stone for the foundation on which my dreams become reality. The books that are dicussed here will inspire educate and entertain, just as The Big Block Goes on Top will.
